Rainy Moonday Morning
Not pushing any products or events this week, not even, like, telepathically. I just thought I’d share a little something that was shared with me in yesterday’s Recomendo weekly newsletter:
To get people to build a boat you don’t need to get them to weave canvas, forge nails, or read the sky. You need to give them a yearning for the sea. –Antoine de St. Exupery
But if you’d like to be able to read the sky anyway, here’s a start: https://www.leagueoflostcauses.com/blog/2013/08/astronomy-101.html (Except it makes it seem like UFOs are make-believe.)
And, while we’re in the neighborhood, if you’ve never seen the moon photography of landscape astrophotographer /astronomy journalist Laurent Laveder, I’m happy to introduce you two. (My best friend of thirty years introduced me, I feel funny taking credit.) Laveder’s collection Quartier Libre is a coffee table fixture at our house.
Meanwhile, coffee tables (or tea tables) have been around since the 1720s, in case you’re wondering. (I come from a furniture family.) A low (sofa-cushion height) centerpiece for a room, the term is more often having to do with its style than its function. Coffee table books were so-named in the 1960s to describe books that were too big for bookshelves. I think it’s stature, not actual size now. Quartier Libre is only ~6″ square.
Happy Thanksgiving, happy Hanukkah, happy short work-week, and everything else there is to be happy about.
