New Workshop (Gr 3 – 12): Graphic Medicine (just a spoonful)
I have been piloting graphic medicine workshops in schools across New England over the past two years and now they’re ready for prime time. WBUR (Boston’s NPR affiliate) aired a twenty-minute segment on my work last spring: “Bridging the Gap between Art and Mental Health through Graphic Medicine.” They recorded a morning I spent with third graders draw monsters and mapping their hearts. (You can listen here.)
Graphic medicine offers powerful social emotional tools for students and teachers that can be learned and practiced in a 45-60 minute workshop, then used forever. Really. I have adults draw monsters and map their hearts, too. My hope is by starting younger, we can tame these monsters much earlier.
