Edite, Elvis, Dolly, and Me

I wrote three sympathy notes this morning. (One was technically belated, but I don’t believe there is any such thing.)
We’ve had a lot of losses lately– Dolly, Gloria, Annie, and the one that cut the deepest for me, Edite Kroll of Edite Kroll Literary Agency, my longtime agent/manager/friend. Edite was and will remain an icon in the book world. She worked with famed children’s book editor Ursula Nordstrom in her early days at Harper & Row. (I can hear Edite in my head, “Whose early days?! …Well then say that!) She was and will remain a pillar in my world.
I really don’t know what there is, if anything, after this. But I like to think Edite was in a good cohort. And I hope, when I get there she’s not so busy with Elvis and Dolly and Gloria and everybody that she’ll have some time for me.
